Environmentally Preferable Products
Building a house that is green means to build one that respects the value of the earth’s natural resources, protects its occupants, and realizes the impact it will leave for future generations. Being that we spend 90% of our time indoors, with much of that time being in our homes, these buildings shouldn’t make us sick. Albeit only one factor of a green home, product selection is a very important step. Environmentally preferable products are:
- Products made with salvaged, recycled, or agricultural waste content
- Products that conserve natural resources
- Products that avoid toxic or other emissions
- Products that reduce environmental impacts during construction, demolition, or renovation
- Products that save energy or water
