Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) Foundation
Insulated concrete forms are a building technology that serves as an alternative to traditional stick framing. The 1327 Magnolia project team used this building technology for its foundation walls. The double foam form walls get set in place with concrete filling the core. This provides the walls with double insulation protection and high thermal mass, thus resulting in energy savings. Because of these features, HVAC systems can subsequently be designed on a much smaller scale, saving up-front costs. ICFs are noted for their durability and strength (designed to last for 100 years), the less amount of labor it takes to construct versus traditional building, and the less amount of maintenance needed throughout their life. Besides just energy savings, because of its monolithic construction process, ICFs reduce air infiltration thus boosting indoor air quality.
The 1327 Magnolia project team chose NUDURA ICFs for their foundation. This product contributes to the ENERGY STAR program and environment sustainability. For more information on NUDURA, visit the website at: www.nudura.com.
